Peter Franchot (MD Comptroller) Honors MicroFARM with Proclamation

Comptroller Franchot visited South Mountain MicroFARM in Boonsboro on Monday afternoon to present a proclamation in honor of the world's first Aquaponic MicroFarm and stated "We stand by innovative practices from our local farmers as the next generation of farmers bridge the gap of technology and agriculture!". Manager Levi Sellers opened the business with his family in 2015. The 22 acre farm produces Christmas Trees organically and produce aquaponically year-round. Aquaponics is a hybrid system that combines organic farming, hydroponics (soiless plant culture) and recirculating aquaculture to create an ecosystem in which both plants and fish can thrive. South Mountain MicroFARM sells its pesticide and chemical-free products at local farmer's markets, grocers, and home delivery services.
